Svartiskógur is a small country guesthouse in Jökulsárhlíð – woodland, mountains and a warm room at the end of the day.
Our story
We are a small, family-run country guesthouse, founded on August 24, 1996, about 8 km from Route 1 and roughly 25–30 km from Egilsstaðir, on road 917 in Jökulsárhlíð. The house sits in a green, wooded landscape with views toward the Dyrfjöll mountains.
What we offer is peace, privacy, clean and comfortable rooms, honest food, and hosts who know the area and are happy to tell you where to go. Choose from rooms in the main house, separate annex rooms, cottages with a kitchenette, a small roof apartment, and a campsite beside it all.
Most guests find us on the way through East Iceland and stay a night or two. Some come back and stay longer – the East has a way of slowing people down.
